Set Fashion Free is a voluntary organisation set up to help young people explore the issues of culture, identity and heritage. However, its objectives reach further than this, desiring to help young people combat negative stereotypes and to embrace the values of hard work, creativity and determination.
Using West African textiles and fashion as a hook we are able to engage with young people and give them the opportunity to do things and see places that they never have before.
Our projects normally run over a one to four week period. They include an Apprentice style model where young people work together in a team as if they were a real business, having to fulfil a brief, take designated job roles and manage a budget. Through the project they are supported by a peer mentor, facilitators and youth workers.
